The Discovery Flight will place you into the world of a pilot your first time in the air. Because of the hands-on nature of flight training, this will NOT simply be an airplane ride. One of our FAA Certified Flight Instructors will guide you through a ground discussion and weather briefing, hands-on preflight of the airplane, use of checklists, radio communication with the tower, takeoff, in-flight maneuvers, landing and post-flight debrief. The best part, you will have the controls almost the entire flight!

The entire cost of your Discovery Flight goes toward in-the-airplane flight time. It's up to you how to spend it.

All prices are based on hourly rates so we can accommodate almost any budget. The most popular choice is an hour in the airplane for $180. There is no limit to how much time you can purchase. If you have special requests, don't hesitate to ask.

How do I purchase a Discovery Flight?

You can purchase a certificate by calling our Air Boss at 847-808-1188 from 7am to 7pm 7 days a week or by e-mailing us at info@WindyCityAviation.com.
We can e-mail your certificate, fax it, or even mail it first class postage for no additional charge. It will arrive in 2-3 business days. You may also pick-it up at our office. Please fill out our form to order Discovery Flight!

What comes with the Discovery Flight?
The certificate will arrive in a folder with the following:

  • Discovery Flight Certificate
  • Coupon for 6 months free of AOPA's Flight Training Magazine
  • Log Book to record your flight
  • Flight Training brochure
  • Aircraft checklist and aircraft info sheet
  • Questions and answers about flying

When does it expire?

Gift Certificates never expire. Just keep it in a safe place. We'll need you to bring it along the day of your flight.

Is it transferable?  

Yes, If you can't stand to give it away, feel free to keep the certificate for yourself!

How do we schedule?

Simply call our Air Boss at (847) 808-1188 between 7am and 7pm 7 days a week to schedule your flight. With over 20 full-time flight instructors and 20 planes, we are available to fly with you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you have passengers riding along, let us know at the time you schedule so we can calculate the weight & balance to be sure we are within limitations. Also be sure to dress for the weather, bring sunglasses and a camera if you like. In addition, we need you to bring along a government issued photo ID (ie: driver's license). Plan to be out at the airport for a total of 2 hours for a 1 hour flight.

Is it Safe to Fly With Windy City Flyers?

Our attention to safety has resulted in Windy City Flyers being the oldest flight school at the Chicago Executive Airport. Our in-house maintenance department, available 24/7, allows us to evaluate any issue that may arise before a plane is allowed to fly. Our aircraft mechanics are directly connected to the safety of our fleet, have no problem keeping a plane as long as they need to, and will stay late to get the work done. We also do 100 hour inspections on every plane on the flight line. This allows us to catch things well before they become a problem resulting in safer planes and lower overall maintenance costs. All of our pilots are FAA Certified Flight Instructors who have passed a rigorous indoc process with our Chief Pilot and are re-interviewed for their positions every 90 days.
