CFI Academy
Windy City Flyers offers a group classroom program for CFI candidates. This program matches you with other CFI candidates in a classroom environment.
The course consists of seven (7) 3-hour group classroom sessions. Participants must possess a commercial pilot certificate and a commercial pilot's knowledge base. You must have passed the Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) & CFI written tests.
Cost:
The 21-hour, group program costs $395 (minimum class size of 3). The course outline is as follows:
Session #1:
Use of the FOI as a practical (not theoretical) guide to instructional technique and a source of student behavior problem solving.
Session #2:
Create specific lesson plans using the FOI as a guide.
Session #3:
Applicants demonstrate their skills by teaching lessons to the class.
Session #4 & 5:
Same as session 3 with more emphasis on critique of applicant performance. Evaluation of student performance both before and after lessons.
Session #6:
Endorsements, logbook entries, PTS, CFI responsibilities. Caveats for the CFI practical exam.
Session #7:
Applicant demonstrates entire CFI-A practical test to class members.
Evaluation criteria will be to PTS standards.
FYI:
Applicant should fly required aircraft with their instructor concurrently through these ground sessions; however, the flying can be completed after successful completing the ground school studies.
